HOW TO FIX WARPED VINYL WINDOWS

Wondering how to fix warped vinyl windows? Can warped or bowed vinyl
windows
even BE repaired?

Many people claim the only solution is to completely replace the windows,
but that is VERY EXPENSIVE. This article explains, in the case of some
double-hung windows, how to fix warped vinyl windows for far less
money than replacing them. As they age, some vinyl windows begin
to bow resulting in a gap between the upper and lower sashes when in
the closed position as shown in the photo below.

The sash locks that are commonly used on vinyl windows (shown below)
are not designed to pull the sashes together to eliminate the gap.

This leaves the homeowner wondering how to fix warped vinyl windows.
A homeowner asked me if there was a way to close the gap when the
windows were closed. After an intensive search on the internet, as well as
in local hardware and window stores, no hardware to correct the gap
could be found. The typical answer given was to replace the windows.

The retainer shown in this photo was designed and produced in my shop:

It closes the gap by pulling the upper and lower sashes together after they’re
closed. The retainer mounting dimensions are exactly the same as the
original sash lock commonly used on double-hung vinyl windows.
Simply remove the existing sash lock and screw the new retainer in place.

Tightening the wing nut draws the upper and lower sashes together to
eliminate the gap. Completely unscrewing the wing nut allows the
window to open normally. If you want to know how to fix warped
